ORG. SETTING AND REPORTING: The Department of Operational Support (DOS) was established to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to operating entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, peace operations, and regional commissions. The Regional Service Centre in Entebbe, Uganda (RSCE), was established in July 2010, following the adoption of General Assembly resolution 64/269. The Centre provides efficient, client-oriented and scalable services to its client entities. This includes transactional elements of human resources, finance, multimodal movement and control, personnel and cargo transport and information and communications technology (ICT) support. In addition to these services, the Office of the Director RSCE and support offices through the Deputy Director RSCE provides overall guidance on the operations of the RSCE including strategic planning, communication, budgeting, human resources management, property management, quality assurance and business intelligence, conference services, record keeping and archive management, audit response and risk management. These internships are located in the Client Service Section (CSS), Quality Assurance and Business Intelligence Unit (QABI) and Property Management Unit (PMU) in the Regional Service Center Entebbe. The Intern will work under the supervision of the Chief of Unit. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The intern will support business intelligence, reporting, knowledge management, and data analytics activities by: • Collecting, sourcing, mining, cleaning, and analyzing data from various sources to generate meaningful insights and support evidence-based decision-making. • Developing analytical reports, dashboards, and visualizations that inform operational and strategic business decisions. • Conducting quality assurance reviews of reports, data, and processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability. • Supporting the design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of Business Intelligence (BI) and reporting solutions. • Collaborating with business users and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into reporting, analytics, or business intelligence solutions. • Preparing and maintaining documentation, user guides, job aids, procedures, and other knowledge resources in accordance with established standards and templates. • Assisting in the preparation of management reports, presentations, and other business communication materials using Microsoft 365 applications. • Monitoring data quality and supporting data management activities to ensure the integrity, consistency, and usability of information. • Supporting end-users by assisting with troubleshooting, issue resolution, and the effective use of reporting and information management tools. • Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Ability to use data visualization tools such as Excel, Power BI to produce meaningful dashboards and be able to mine data and convert it into applicable insights. EDUCATION: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school Programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in data science, statistics, mathematics, information technology, computer science, business information technology or related field; or b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) in data science, statistics, mathematics, information technology, computer science, business information technology or related field. WORK EXPERIENCE: No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. SPECIAL SKILLS Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel is required. Proficiency in standard office automation equipment is required. Knowledge of Programing languages in SQL, R, Python or similar languages to manipulate data is desirable. Ability to collect, clean, manipulate, analyze, and interpret data from multiple sources is desirable. Proficiency in data visualization, reporting, and dashboard creation using tools such as Power BI, Excel, Tableau, or similar platforms is desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship programme, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.

This internship is for an initial period of three (3) months, which may be extended to a maximum duration of six (6) months. The Intern will work full-time (5) five days, (40) forty hours per week, in person at the duty station. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
