The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is hiring a Human Rights Officer (P-5) to lead its global efforts on business and human rights. This senior-level role is based in Geneva within the Development and Economic and Social Issues Branch (DESIB).

As a P-5 Human Rights Officer, you will:

• Develop and implement strategies that address human rights in business sectors.

• Represent OHCHR in high-level dialogues with governments and global stakeholders.

• Oversee the programme of work, including budget and planning for the Business and Human Rights Section.

• Coordinate and lead thematic research and policy development.

• Prepare high-level human rights reports related to corporate accountability and economic policy.

• Manage and mentor junior staff, ensuring effective delivery of strategic goals.

✅ Qualifications

Education:

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Law, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field.

• A first-level degree with two extra years of experience can substitute the advanced degree.

• Completion of coursework in data/business analytics is an asset.

Experience:

• At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in human rights, law, or international relations.

• 8+ years of experience specifically leading projects on business and human rights is required.

Skills:

• Strong understanding of international legal frameworks related to corporate human rights responsibilities.

• High-level communication and negotiation skills with senior-level stakeholders.

• Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional teams and projects.

Language:

• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French or another UN language is desirable.
