The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is hiring a Human Rights Officer (P-5) to lead its global efforts on business and human rights. This senior-level role is based in Geneva within the Development and Economic and Social Issues Branch (DESIB).
🛠️ Responsibilities
As a P-5 Human Rights Officer, you will:

Develop and implement strategies that address human rights in business sectors.

Represent OHCHR in high-level dialogues with governments and global stakeholders.

Oversee the programme of work, including budget and planning for the Business and Human Rights Section.

Coordinate and lead thematic research and policy development.

Prepare high-level human rights reports related to corporate accountability and economic policy.

Manage and mentor junior staff, ensuring effective delivery of strategic goals.
✅ Qualifications
Education:

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Law, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field.

A first-level degree with two extra years of experience can substitute the advanced degree.

Completion of coursework in data/business analytics is an asset.
Experience:

At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in human rights, law, or international relations.

8+ years of experience specifically leading projects on business and human rights is required.
Skills:

Strong understanding of international legal frameworks related to corporate human rights responsibilities.

High-level communication and negotiation skills with senior-level stakeholders.

Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional teams and projects.
Language:

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French or another UN language is desirable.
