The World Health Organization (WHO) is hiring a Project Coordinator to lead the implementation of major global health preparedness initiatives. This P4-level position, based on a 12-month temporary appointment, is central to managing and expanding WHO’s engagement with the Pandemic Fund, a global financing mechanism enhancing health system resilience in low- and middle-income countries.

This is a high-impact opportunity for public health professionals with a passion for pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response (PPR). You’ll coordinate multi-country programs, align WHO’s efforts with global partners, and ensure robust monitoring and strategic visibility of pandemic preparedness investments.

1. Project Coordination & Implementation

  • Manage the design, execution, and results tracking of multi-country pandemic readiness projects.

  • Align efforts with WHO Country Offices, national governments, and regional bodies.

  • Supervise a dedicated Pandemic Fund team and coordinate with internal WHO units.

2. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Lead the development of MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning) frameworks.

  • Track progress through key indicators and prepare comprehensive reports.

  • Ensure results are used to inform decision-making and strategic adaptation.

3. Proposal Development & Strategic Planning

  • Drive strategic proposal design and submission for the 3rd Call of the Pandemic Fund.

  • Ensure alignment with WHO’s global strategy and funder requirements.

4. Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Development

  • Act as the point of contact for donors, implementing partners, and regional platforms.

  • Strengthen WHO’s position in global health financing and pandemic prevention.

5. Representation & Advocacy

  • Represent WHO in high-level dialogues, international summits, and donor briefings.

  • Advocate for cross-border health system resilience and WHO’s leadership.

6. Team Leadership, Supervision & Onboarding

  • Mentor new team members and create staff development roadmaps.

  • Build an inclusive, high-performing project management team.

7. Resource Mobilization

  • Identify funding gaps and opportunities for expanded PPR programming.

  • Develop donor materials showcasing the impact of pandemic investments.


🎓 Qualifications

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in public health, international development, global health policy, or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in public health project coordination, with at least 3 years in international settings.

  • Experience working with multilateral donors (e.g. Global Fund, Gavi, World Bank, or Pandemic Fund).

  • Strong track record in proposal writing, project evaluation, and results-based management.

Language Skills:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is a strong asset.

💵 Compensation and Benefits

  • Base Salary: USD 84,672 per annum

  • Post Adjustment: Based on duty station (can significantly increase base pay)
