Internship: Programme Support for Environmental Finance – UNEP (Montreal)
Are you an analytical student with a passion for the environment? The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks a UNEP Programme Support Intern for its Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) in Montreal, Canada.
This in-person UNEP Programme Support Intern role offers a key chance to help assess funding needs for biodiversity worldwide. What You’ll Do as a UNEP Programme Support Intern:
As a Programme Support Intern, you’ll work under the Programme Management Officer. Your main task will be to help assess funding for biodiversity. Specifically, you will:
- Research & Collect Data: You’ll help research funding needs from national biodiversity plans and finance strategies; this includes looking at country-specific fundraising approaches. Furthermore, you’ll also research biodiversity funding reported by other international groups.
- Analyze Information: You’ll help gather and analyze data from surveys sent out by the Convention Secretariat.
- Compile & Prepare Reports: You’ll help organize funding information received from eligible countries. Moreover, you’ll prepare notes for the GEF Secretariat and others involved in GEF-9 funding discussions.
- Provide General Support: Beyond these core tasks, you’ll assist with other duties as your supervisor requests.
Who We Need for This Intern Role:
To qualify for a United Nations internship, you must meet one of these requirements when you apply:
- You are currently in or have finished a graduate program (Master’s degree or higher).
- Alternatively, you are currently in or have finished the final year of a bachelor’s degree program.
- Finally, you have already graduated with a university degree.
Preferred Skills:
- You should be in, or recently graduated from, a Master’s or PhD program with a strong focus on quantitative analysis.
- You must be comfortable using standard computer software.
- You should have a strong interest in the UN’s work and believe in its goals.
- Furthermore, you must show you can work well with people from different backgrounds and beliefs. This means being open to understanding and respecting different views.
Please note: Professional work experience isn’t required. However, your field of study must directly relate to this internship. For example, you’ll need to provide official proof of enrollment or graduation later.
Languages:
You must be fluent in spoken and written English. Knowing another UN language (like Spanish or French) is a plus.
