Furthermore, it built a strong policy framework to “green” its financial system starting in 2016. These efforts are absolutely crucial for reaching worldwide sustainable development goals. Consequently, and as a result, UNDP China works closely with partners across both public and private sectors. Ultimately, then, we aim to better align China’s financial system with the SDGs. This means, for instance, improving data, boosting transparency, harmonizing standards, and sharing international knowledge.

What You’ll Do: Your SDG Finance Internship Responsibilities
Working closely with the Head of Strategic Partnerships and Policy Team, you’ll support various projects and initiatives. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Project Support: Help manage and ensure the quality of ongoing projects. These cover diverse areas like climate, green, and transition finance, gender lens finance, ESG in finance, impact measurement, debt innovation, and sustainable fiscal policies. For instance, specifically, this involves tasks such as translation, drafting and polishing reports, managing events, and handling budget and procurement administration. In short, then, you’ll play a truly key supporting role in our team.
- Communication & Outreach: Assist with SDG finance activities across projects and the office. Thus, you’ll draft concept notes, talking points, and invitation letters. Moreover, to ensure smooth operation, you’ll coordinate internally across teams.
- Policy Research: Support policy research. This means, explicitly, analyzing data, reviewing relevant literature, and drafting briefs and concept notes. Additionally, therefore, these will cover new and important topics in sustainable finance in China and worldwide.
- Office Activities: Help with office-wide initiatives. This includes, for example, employee association activities, green commitments, and team-building events. In essence, consequently, you’ll be an active and valued part of our office community.
- Other Tasks: Handle any other emerging tasks as needed to meet priorities.
What We’re Looking For in an SDG Finance Intern
We need someone who is truly eager to learn, highly organized, and possesses excellent communication skills in both English and Chinese.
Qualifications:
- Education: You must meet one of these requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program.
- Alternatively, you could be in the final year of a Bachelor’s program.
- Or, perhaps, within one year of graduating from a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program.
- Finally, you could be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship where this internship is a required part of the program.
- Preferred Background: A major or work experience in development studies, public policy, economics, finance, international development, law, or other social sciences is definitely a plus.
- Languages: Advanced English and Chinese are absolutely required.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and research abilities.
- Basic understanding of SDGs and global development issues.
- Basic knowledge of sustainable finance.
- Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Able to manage diverse tasks and tight deadlines, often with minimal supervision.
- High integrity, professionalism, and a flexible, results-oriented approach.
- Passionate about working with UNDP and making a positive difference.
