Internship: Public Information Intern – UNIC Mexico

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in strategic communication, media outreach, and content creation within an international setting. Indeed, you’ll play a vital role in promoting the UN’s work and priorities across Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

What You’ll Do as a Public Information Intern in Mexico:
Working directly under the UNIC Director or the National Information Officer, you will support key communication activities. Your responsibilities, therefore, will include:
- Communications Support: You’ll help with research, media outreach, and drafting various communication materials. Furthermore, this includes supporting outreach efforts to diverse publics and producing information products and services.
- Strategic Communication: You’ll assist in the strategic communication of the United Nations across Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
- Coordination & Digital Content: You’ll help coordinate communication activities for UN System agencies in Mexico through the Communication Group. Moreover, you’ll update UNIC Mexico’s website and contribute to creating multimedia assets for web and social media in Spanish and other languages. You’ll also draft and edit written, audiovisual, and digital content for various platforms.
- Public Engagement & Events: You’ll assist in daily liaison with civil society, academia, and NGOs in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. Additionally, you’ll help organize events and collaborate with both public and private sectors on UN issues. You’ll also cooperate with civil society on information sharing and promote UN education and youth participation.
- Other Duties: Finally, you’ll perform other tasks as assigned.
Programming skills for AR/VR products and knowledge of Boolean queries/social media listening tools are desirable.
Who We Need for This Public Information Role:
To qualify for a United Nations internship, you must meet one of the following requirements:
- You are currently enrolled in, or have completed, the second to last year of a Bachelor’s degree program (or equivalent).
- Your studies should be in social sciences, journalism, communications, audiovisual communications, social media management, marketing, advertising, multimedia production, or a related field.
Please note: Professional work experience is not required. However, your field of study must directly relate to this internship. For example, you’ll need to provide an official certificate of enrollment or graduation at a later stage.
Additional Qualifications:
- You must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
- Furthermore, you need good knowledge of multimedia production programs, such as Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Capcut, Canvas), or similar.
- You should have the ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts.
- You must demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
- Finally, you should show a proven ability to successfully interact with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages:
Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required for this position. Fluency in English is desirable.
