About This Key GEO Knowledge Hub Curator Role
The GEO Knowledge Hub serves as GEO’s central digital library. It functions as a nexus for hosting and making discoverable innovative Earth Observation (EO) based applications (known as “Knowledge Packages”) and their related resources. These valuable resources, moreover, originate from diverse sources, including GEO Work Programme activities, GEO Members, Partner Organizations, and other collaborators. Ultimately, we meticulously curate this content. This ensures, consequently, that users can easily reproduce and adopt existing applications to tackle pressing environmental and societal challenges.
As the GEO Knowledge Hub Curator, you will, therefore, play an instrumental role in expanding and enhancing this global resource.
Your Core Responsibilities: Driving Content Engagement as a Knowledge Hub Curator
You will actively manage and drive engagement with the GEO Knowledge Hub’s content. Specifically, your key responsibilities will encompass:
- Engaging with Knowledge Providers: You will collaborate directly with content providers to facilitate the registration of their materials. Consequently, this ensures that content meets our strict quality standards for full understanding and reproducibility.
- Supporting the Webinar Series: You will also assist the GEO Knowledge Hub team in the design, promotion, and execution of engaging webinars. The primary goal here is, of course, to increase end-user engagement and adoption of existing applications.
- Performing Monitoring & Evaluation: Furthermore, you will systematically monitor and evaluate webinar effectiveness with users. Moreover, you will critically collect “user stories” that highlight how people practically apply our open knowledge applications.
- Supporting National Hubs: In addition, you will contribute to the design and implementation of new National GEO Knowledge Hubs, thereby extending the reach and impact of our platform significantly.
Expected Deliverables: Your Tangible Impact as a GEO Knowledge Hub Curator
By the end of your contract, you will deliver concrete and tangible results, significantly contributing to the Hub’s growth and utility:
- Enriching the Hub: You will successfully add a minimum of 10 new knowledge packages sourced from GEO Work Programme activities, partners, and other collaborators.
- Ensuring Accessibility: You will guarantee, moreover, that all existing knowledge packages and related resources are meticulously curated and effortlessly accessible to users.
- Leading Webinars: Furthermore, you will successfully lead 6 webinars specifically focused on existing GEO Knowledge Hub applications, with a particular emphasis on those related to the Space Climate Observatory (SCO).
- Creating a User Database: Finally, you will develop a comprehensive database of webinar attendees, meticulously noting their countries, institutions, and the specific ways the GEO Knowledge Hub has benefited their work.

This GEO Knowledge Hub Curator role offers significant flexibility as it is entirely home-based. Moreover, the expected duration for this consultancy is 180 days spread over 9 months, representing a variable appointment tailored to departmental needs.
Who We’re Looking For: Your Expertise as a Knowledge Hub Curator Matters!
We are seeking a highly qualified professional who embodies our commitment to open science and global collaboration. To be successful in this role, you must meet the following essential requirements:
Education & Experience Foundations
- Education: You must hold a Master’s degree in Earth Observations applications.
- Experience:
- You need proven experience engaging effectively with EO knowledge providers (both open and commercial).
- You must have at least 2 years of hands-on experience managing and handling EO applications with Open Data and Open Knowledge principles.
- Furthermore, you must demonstrate a clear and comprehensive understanding of the various technical and content aspects required for a reproducible EO-based application.
Other Essential Requirements for Success
- You possess strong knowledge of Data Sharing and Data Management Principles (GEO, FAIR, TRUST, and CARE).
- You have operational proficiency with the GEO Knowledge Hub platform (Invenio RDM).
- You can demonstrate experience in curating Earth Observations applications, with meticulous attention to code, algorithms, data, publications, and training material to ensure reproducibility.
- You have proven experience leading successful webinars for end-users in close collaboration with Knowledge providers.
- You possess exceptional capacity to engage effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- You have a compelling ability to advocate effectively for the usage and benefits of the GEO Knowledge Hub.
- Finally, you demonstrate the skill to provide constructive and insightful remarks to improve the content and description of knowledge packages.
Language Skills Required
- You must possess excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written).
- Furthermore, knowledge of other official languages of GEO (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) would be a valuable advantage.
