The Role: Senior Data Communications & Advocacy Consultant
This Senior Consultant position is crucial for enhancing UNICEF’s decision-making, organizational learning, and ultimately, results for children globally. Sitting within the Data Communications and Advocacy team at UNICEF’s NY Headquarters (DAPM & DAT), this remote consultancy will be an executor of UNICEF’s digital strategy, focusing on ensuring that UNICEF’s extensive data on children and women is not only accessible but powerfully influential.
You will play a central role in preparing UNICEF’s Strategic Plan for 2026–2029 by seamlessly integrating planning, monitoring, data, and analytics (PMDA). This includes transforming intricate data into actionable insights for internal alignment and impactful external advocacy with Member States and partners.
Key Responsibilities and Scope of Work:
As a Data Communications and Advocacy Consultant for UNICEF, your responsibilities will include:
- Content Development & Data Visualization: Transform complex datasets into compelling, accurate, and accessible narratives and engaging visualizations. Produce interactive charts, graphs, and infographics to communicate intricate information clearly for diverse audiences, from high-level policymakers to the general public.
- Digital Content & Platform Management: Support the production, publication, and maintenance of digital content across UNICEF’s key data platforms, including data.unicef.org and mics.unicef.org, ensuring brand consistency and optimal user experience. Facilitate coordination with vendors and partners to maintain high performance, security, and accessibility standards for these vital data platforms.
- Interactive Landing Pages & Thematic Storytelling: Design and develop dynamic, data-driven landing pages and thematic narrative pages. Utilize compelling storytelling techniques and interactive elements to highlight key data insights and trends, creating engaging experiences for both technical and public audiences.
- Audience Reach & Impact Optimization: Develop and implement targeted email marketing campaigns aligned with programmatic and advocacy objectives. Leverage SEO best practices and analytics tools to enhance the visibility, search relevance, and sustained engagement of digital assets. Measure and evaluate communication performance using data-driven insights to inform continuous improvement.
- Event-Based Communications & Advocacy: Provide critical support for UNICEF’s communications presence at high-level, data-focused global events and convenings. This includes producing and disseminating impactful outreach and advocacy materials, ensuring alignment with internal teams and external partners.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships: Support the identification of collaboration opportunities with key partners and advocacy stakeholders. Assist in developing and implementing joint communication strategies, such as for the Healthy Diets Monitoring Initiative, to amplify visibility and drive shared goals. Engage donors through tailored, impact-focused communications.
- AI-Enhanced Communications Innovation: Proactively leverage generative AI and other emerging technologies to innovate communication approaches, gain efficiencies, and enhance audience engagement, discoverability, and content retention.

Qualifications for this Remote UNICEF Role
To be considered for this Senior Data Communications and Advocacy Consultant position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Education:
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in English, Communication, Development Studies, Journalism, or International Relations.
Knowledge, Expertise, and Skills Required:
- At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in data-focused communication roles, with demonstrated success in advocacy and outreach, preferably within multilateral or UN contexts.
- Extensive experience working with UN data platforms, dashboards, and communication reporting frameworks.
- Advanced proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, and relevant internal UN systems).
- Deep knowledge of email marketing platforms, web content management systems (e.g., Drupal, WordPress), and back-end content optimization technologies.
- Superior written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail, capable of translating complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated expertise in digital marketing, content strategy, SEO, and data analytics.
- Strong decision-making skills, consistently achieving KPIs and outreach goals, supported by data insights.
